How to Make a Tiny Desk AI Video

How to make a Tiny Desk AI video in 3 steps: choose Solo (1 photo) or Band (5 people), upload clear photos, and get a 15-second 9:16 MP4 with sound.
Oct 26, 2026

To make a Tiny Desk AI video, open Tiny Desk AI (tinydesk-ai.best), choose Solo (1 photo) or Band (1 group photo of 5 people, or 5 single photos), upload clear front-facing photos, and click generate. You get a 15-second, 9:16, 720×1280 MP4 with sound: your face, or five faces, in the "Outstanding" desk-concert parody of Charlie Wilson's 2023 NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert. There is no prompt to write and no editing. Rendering usually takes a few minutes, a video costs $9.99 (or 3 for $19.90, 5 for $29.90), and a failed render returns the credit automatically.

Ready? Open the generator, or follow the steps below.

Step 1: Choose Solo or Band

Both modes cost the same and produce the same 15-second 720p video.

ModeWhat you uploadWho gets replacedGood for
Solo1 front-facing photoThe center lead singerPersonal clips, birthday shout-outs
Band, group photo1 photo with 5 people clearly visibleAll five performers, assigned by position in the photoQuick team or friend-group videos
Band, 5 photos5 single photosAll five performers, in fixed slot orderChoosing exactly who plays what

In 5-photo mode, the slot order sets each role:

  1. Picture 1: lead singer, center at the mic
  2. Picture 2: keyboard
  3. Picture 3: sax
  4. Picture 4: backup singer 1
  5. Picture 5: backup singer 2

More group tips are in the Tiny Desk AI Band guide.

Step 2: Upload clear photos

The clearer the face, the better the result.

Before generating, tick the box confirming you have permission to use every photo. Wondering if a single phone photo is enough? See our guide: Can I make this trend using only a selfie?.

Step 3: Generate, download and share

  1. Pick a pack: $9.99 for 1 video, $19.90 for 3, or $29.90 for 5. One-time payment, no subscription.
  2. Generate: rendering usually takes a few minutes. You can close the tab; finished videos appear in My Videos.
  3. Download: a 720×1280 (9:16) MP4 with sound and no watermark. If the render fails, the credit comes back automatically.

Questions

How long are my photos stored?

Uploaded photos are private and deleted after 24 hours. They are only used to make your video and are never used for AI training.

How is Tiny Desk AI different from general AI video tools like Kling or Viggle?

General AI video tools can animate a face, but you supply the concert footage, sync the song and composite each person yourself. Tiny Desk AI has the 15-second desk-concert scene and the song built in, and Band mode maps up to five faces to fixed roles in one render.

Can I post my Tiny Desk AI video on TikTok, Reels and Shorts?

Yes. The 9:16, 720×1280 MP4 fits TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts and X. Turn on the platform's AI-generated content label, and only use photos you have permission to use.

How do I choose who plays the sax in Band mode?

Pick Band mode and use 5-photo upload. Put the sax player in Picture 3. Picture 1 is always the lead singer, Picture 2 the keyboard, and Pictures 4 and 5 the backup singers.

Can I make a Tiny Desk AI video for free?

No. Watching the templates and checking your photos are free, but rendering a video costs one credit, from $9.99 for 1 video. There is no free video render and no subscription.

What if the face in my video looks distorted?

Most distortion comes from angled, dark or partly covered faces. Upload a bright, eye-level photo with the face clearly visible and generate again. If the render failed outright, your credit was already returned.
